6 Hours Drive Around Tahiti Nui & Tahiti Iti

4:30 in the morning, fresh off of our redeye flight into French Polynesia, we set forth on our first adventure on Tahitian soil. We had 10 hours before our connecting flight to Tikehau, located in the Tuamotu Archipelago. Armed with a map and our cute little Kia Picante, a nut of a car, we ventured out onto Tahiti's ONE road around the island, and as we wound down this little road, we unwound our wrapped up American lives and opened to the warmth of the Tahitian sun. Along the way, we visted the Gaugan Museum, and sampled our first Tahitian meal, cooked at a little road side grill amonst rolicking roosters, swaying banana leaves and friendly Tahitians. The 10 hours melted away like the sweet Tahitian butter that seemed to be in every dish of food, every roll of bread and every, oh so tasty, croissant. It was time to venture forth.
